I remember Bob being into cycling, there was an interview I heard sometime in the early nineties where he talked about coming up with song ideas while riding his "Spectrum Titanium." Also remember a quote along the lines of "my idea of a good time these days often doesn't involve getting wasted." I always got the impression he was something of an athlete as a lad; there's that photo of him playing basketball in highschool.

Then again, he often seemed the most spaced out member of the band. I've often wondered how frequently he and the others did psychedelics throughout the seventies. Sounds like LSD was everywhere in '74. Donna spoke of laying beside the piano tripping balls during the Winterland run, and the director and camera crew claimed to've been dosed every night while shooting the movie. There's a strange moment in the movie, a backstage interlude where Bobby's asked a question and responds with what sounds like "I'm on it." Licking cupcake icing or something? Shit, can't remember, have to go back and watch it. My friend and I always used to wonder.

I'm firmly of the opinion that all drugs are not created equal. One of the biggest atrocities of our national policy is the lumping together of such disparate substances as, say, pot and meth. I don't think it in any way hypocritical to use pot and other ethnobotanicals occasionally, and not consider yourself as being "on drugs" or whatever (any more than smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee puts you "on drugs).
